Lara

The name Lara is of Latin origins. It might also have been derived from the name Laura, a Latin name, so the meaning of Lara is ‘a laurel leaf’. According to Roman Mythology, Lara was a beautiful naiad nymph who was known for her beauty. However, she was also known as a gossip and for not being able to keep secrets. She reveals Jupiter’s affair with another nymph, to his wife. When Jupiter found out about this, he ordered her to be taken to the underworld. She is the mother of Lares, who were guardian deities in Roman mythology and looked after the households and protected the houses and fields. The name Lara also comes from the Greek and Russian name Larissa. In Greek mythology, Larissa had an affair with Poseidon and thus had three sons, who later became the rulers of different regions of Greece. Lara is also the name of one of Venezuela’s states as well as a region of Greece. An acropolis in the city of Agros is known as Larissa Hill.
