Adeline

The name Adeline is of French origins. It is a diminutive of the name Adele, which was a well known name in the Medieval Ages, courtesy of Saint Adele. The daughter of King Dagobert II, Saint Adele was a German saint, who chose to become a nun after her husband passed away. She was the founder of a convent in Trier, West Germany, and became the very first abbess - the female superior of all nuns. She is known for managing and ruling over the convent with prudence, compassion and holiness. William the Conqueror also named his daughter Adele. Adele is derived from the German word ‘adel’, which means ‘noble’. The meaning of Adeline thus translates to be ‘noble’ or ‘nobility’. Simon Helberg, well is known as the character Howard Wolowitz in ‘The Big Bang Theory’, named his daughter Adeline. American writers Adeline Pond Adams and Louise Adeline Weitzel, the ballet dancer Adeline Genee and the graceful French figure skater Adeline Canac are some of the other known Adelines.
