Adonijah

Adonijah is predominantly a boy's name that originated from the Hebrew language. The meaning of Adonijah is 'my Lord is God' or 'Lord is my Yahweh'. Adonijah was the fourth son of King David and the elder brother of King Solomon. Adonijah was the son of Haggith, who, according to the Old Testament and ‘Book Of Samuel’, tried to proclaim the throne of Israel when King David was terminally ill. Adonijah gathered the support of the army's priest and commander in chief but couldn't muster support from Prophet Nathan and the King's bodyguard. He invited his supporters and brother Princes, except Solomon, to announce his claim to the throne. After Solomon's mother, Bathsheba, convinced King David to name Solomon the King, Adonijah fled to the altar. Adonijah married Abishag, who serves King David on his deathbed. Solomon killed Adonijah, even after Bathsheba requested Solomon not to. Solomon thought it was a second attempt at the throne and denied the arrangement. Adonijah is used in English-speaking countries and is an uncommon name. A few famous people with this name are Adonijah Welch, the senator from Florida; Adonijah Reid, a Canadian soccer player; Adonijah Richardson, an Anguillan football player; and Adonijah Bidwell supporter of American independence.
