Aleksei

Aleksei, sometimes spelled Aleksey, is a Russian and Bulgarian mostly male first name derived from the Greek Aléxios (o), and the meaning of Aleksei is 'Defender of Man', and therefore from the same root as the Latin Alexius. In Russian, Aleksei means Old Greek - Defender of Men; Defender; a variation of the name Alexander. Alexey can also be spelled Aleksei, Aleksey, Alexej, Aleksej, and so on. It is most generally known in the West as Alexis. Similar names in Ukraine and Belarus are romanized as Oleksii (лекc) and Aliaksiej (лксе), respectively. For its Saints and Hierarchs, the Russian Orthodox Church used the Old Church Slavonic variant, Alexiy (лексi, or лекси in contemporary spelling) (most notably, this is the form used for Patriarchs Alexius I and Alexius II). 
The Greek word alexo, which means 'to defend or help', is where the name Alexis comes from. Aleksei I. Goloborodko, who is regarded as the most flexible person ever after training in martial arts and modern and classical dance, currently goes by this moniker and is well-known for it. He performs in the Cirque du Soleil production Luzia.
