Aline
Aline is a shortened form of the German and French name Adeline (alternate spelling: Adelyn) or Adelaide, which means 'noble' and 'honorable' and is the more widely-accepted origin. Alternatively, the meaning of Aline is also derived from the Greek name Helena which means 'bright' and 'shining,' from the Greek word 'Helios' for the sun. When used as a variant of the name 'Eileen,' Aline can also mean 'little bird' or 'strength.' Although Aline is an uncommon name these days, it used to be popular in the late 19th century and early 20th century. As a testament to its popularity, the most prominent bearers of this name lived between 1880 and 1950. Aline Bernstein was a skilled American costume designer credited with designing costumes for the musical 'Regina' (1949) and set design for a play, The Children's Hour' (1934). Another renowned person named Aline Chretien was the influential wife of Canada's 20th Prime Minister, Jean Chretien. Interestingly, 'Aline' is also the name of a chartbuster song released in France in 1965 by singer Christophe. More recently, in 2020, the name re-appeared as the leading character of the eponymous movie 'Aline,' a fictional work representing the work and life of singer Celine Dion.
