Corsica is a French Mediterranean island in the north of Sardinia. Because the island is renowned for its beauty and startling surrounding bodies of water, people adopted Corsica as a name. This was the name given to the Còrsi, the indigenous people of the island. The same source claims the name could be from a Roman conqueror who founded Ajaccio a city in Corsica. Or maybe Hercules's son Cyrnum (Greek mythology) who may have lived on the island. Or from Corso, a friend of Aeneas (Greek mythology). This name steeps in Greek mythology, plus the beauty and charm of the Island. It is usually given to girls as a first name. One of the most infamous personalities, Napoleon Bonaparte, is a Corsican. Other noteworthy personalities are French professional wrestler, Corsica Joe, and Portuguese-born actress, Corsica Wilson.
