Corsica

Corsica is a French Mediterranean island in the north of Sardinia. Because the island is renowned for its beauty and startling surrounding bodies of water, people adopted Corsica as a name. There are a lot of theories on the origin and the meaning of Corsica is lost in history. Before the island was ceded to the French by the Genoese in 1768, it was a settlement of the Greeks. So the name is most likely Greek in origin from one of these words Korsis or Corsis, Kalliste, Cyrnos, Cernealis, or Cirné. The ancient Greek called the island these names at different points in history. Cyrnos, Cernealis, and Cirné are from the more ancient Greek word Seirenoussai which translates to 'of the Sirens'. Other references say Corsica is from ancient Greek, from the word 'còruioi'. This was the name given to the Còrsi, the indigenous people of the island. The same source claims the name could be from a Roman conqueror who founded Ajaccio a city in Corsica. Or maybe Hercules's son Cyrnum (Greek mythology) who may have lived on the island. Or from Corso, a friend of Aeneas (Greek mythology). This name steeps in Greek mythology, plus the beauty and charm of the Island. It is usually given to girls as a first name. One of the most infamous personalities, Napoleon Bonaparte, is a Corsican. Other noteworthy personalities are French professional wrestler, Corsica Joe, and Portuguese-born actress, Corsica Wilson.
