Devera

In Roman mythology, Devera is the name of one of the three gods that help women in labor and midwives. It comes from the Latin word Deverro. She has a broom which she uses to sweep away evil influences. The brooms that she carries are used to clean temples to prepare them for celebrations and regular worshipping including sacrifices. The name, which is also spelt Deverra, is often used for females and the meaning of Devera is ‘to sweep away,’ used to describe her divine personality. Of all nine Neonatal care Roman deities, who are saddled with protecting a child as soon as he or she is born, Devera ranks third and is responsible for driving away Silvanus, the wild woodland god of trees. In the United States of America, the name first appeared in the year 1915 and was given to five newborn babies all at the same birth period. Devera has Spanish and Hebrew roots. In Spanish, it specifies a fertile region between a river and its upland whereas in Hebrew it means 'task'. The name features in the novel 'Brokedown Palace' written by American author Steven Burst where there is a nine-year-old brown girl named Devera. A famous person bearing the name is English footballer Joseph '50p Head' Devera.
