Endymion

The meaning of Endymion is 'dive into'. It is a name typically given to boys and is of Greek origin. It derives from the Greek name Endumion, meaning 'pull' or 'draw'. According to Greek mythology, Endymion was the name of a mortal who was the lover of Selene, the goddess of the moon. In a popular myth, Endymion was granted one wish by Zeus and requested everlasting youth. Following that, Zeus put him in an infinite slumber to retain his youth. Another version of the story mentions Selene as the one who requested Endymion's eternal life. Thereafter, she paid him frequent visits and gave birth to his children. A main-belt asteroid in space bears his name. 'Endymion' is also the title of a well-known poem by John Keats.
