Everglade

The meaning of Everglade is ‘a grassy open place'. Everglade is a compound word made up of the terms Glades, an old English word that indicates a grassy open area, and Ever, which comes from the word eternal. The name of a well-known location is everglade, an English word. The Everglades are naturally occurring tropical wetland areas in the south of Florida. It is caused by the southern half of a significant drainage basin that is thought to be situated in the Neotropical region. Spanish maps were the first written documentation of the Everglades. Spanish cartographers' maps are where the Everglades were first mentioned in writing. When John Gerard de Brahm, a British surveyor charted Florida's shoreline in 1773, he referred to the Everglade region as 'River Glades.' Though it was sometimes written as 'Ever Glades' as late as 1851, the term 'Everglades' first made its first appearance on a map in 1823. Pahokee, which means 'Grassy Water,' is how the Seminoles refer to it. On a U.S. military map from 1839, the area was marked as 'Pa-hai-okee,' despite the fact that it had previously been known as 'Ever Glades' during the Second Seminole War.
