Folke

Count of Wisborg Folke Bernadotte was a Swedish nobleman as well as a diplomat. 450 Danish Jews from the Theresienstadt camp were among the 31,000 detainees of German concentration camps who he helped secure their liberation during World War II. They were let go on April 14, 1945. Heinrich Himmler made a German surrender offer to him in 1945, but the offer was ultimately turned down. Following the conflict, Bernadotte was unanimously selected to serve as the United Nations Security Council's mediating body for the 1947–1948 Arab–Israeli conflict.
