Hades

The meaning of Hades is ‘unseen’ or ‘sightless’. It is a name given to boys and is of Greek origin. According to Greek mythology, Hades was the name of the Greek god of the underworld and the dead. He is the brother of Zeus and the eldest son of the Titan gods, Cronus and Rhea. He was one of the children who were swallowed by Cronus at birth. His younger brother Zeus was hidden and later used his power to rescue Hades and his siblings. The last of Zeus' brothers to be released from his father was Hades. He is one of the so-called six Olympian gods. Due to his connection with death and the underworld, the Greeks feared him. Hades is also a synonym for hell, a purgatory for those who have died as a result of their sins. ‘Hades’ is the name of a video game released in 2020 based on a son of Hades, Zagreus who grows sick of his father and attempts to escape the underworld.
