Hadria

The meaning of Hadria is ‘dark’ or ‘from Hadria’. Traditionally, it is a name given to girls and is of Greek origin. It derives from the name Hadrianus which means ‘from Hadria, Italy’. It is considered the feminine version of the name Hadrian. Hadrian was the name of a Roman emperor who ruled from 117 to 138 AD. He became emperor after his cousin’s wife, Pompeia Plotina nominated him after her husband, the former emperor, died. In honor of his deceased lover Antinous, he founded the ancient city of Antinoöpolis in Egypt. He had visited Greece once and made several connections with the Greek nobles. Supposedly, the Arch of Hadrian in Athena was constructed for his welcome to Greece.
