Penelopa is a Polish version of Penelope. It has generally been given to girls. The meaning of Penelopa is 'weaver'. It comes from the book by Homer called 'The Odyssey' where Penelope was married to Odysseus. While he was away at war for 20 years, Penelope ran the kingdom and refused the hundreds of suitors who wanted her hand. She said she would only marry once she'd finished a shroud for her husband to keep them at bay. She wove during the day, unraveled the shroud at night, and kept the men an arm's length away for several years. Penelopa has experienced several rises and falls in popularity over the centuries.
