Phryne

The meaning of Phryne is derived from the translation of the Ancient Greek phrase 'Phrýnos Phrýne', which means 'toad, like a toad'. The Honourable Phryne Fisher, sometimes known as Miss Fisher, is the protagonist in Kerry Greenwood's Phryne Fisher detective books, which were written in Australia. Later, the figure appeared in the movies called 'Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears' and 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries' on TV. Phryne was well-known in ancient Greece for her trial for the desecration of divinity, where the orator Hypereides represented her. She served as Praxiteles' model in the fourth century BC. She belonged in Thespiae in Boeotia and lived and worked in Athens, where she rose to become one of the wealthiest women in Greece. The endearing protagonist Phryne Fisher from Australian novelist Kerry Greenwood's aforementioned detective show 'Phryne Fisher's Murder Mysteries', set in the ’20s, also retained the name Phryne. In the series, Phryne is a well-off Melbourne lady who defies gender and class expectations by being able to fly a plane, drive her own car, and occasionally wear pants, however, manages to keep her sense of style and sophistication while expressing a Bohemian flair.
