Vincent is an old French name, taken from the Latin word 'vincens', so the meaning of Vincent is 'vanquishing' or 'winning'. The name was borne by a number of holy people, the most well known as Saint Vincent of Saragossa, who lived in the third century. He is the patron saint of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon and is said to also be the patron saint of wine producers. Another famous holy person was the composer Saint Vincent of Lérins.
