Zenobia

A name of Greek origins, the meaning of Zenobia is 'life of Zeus'. It is a name typically given to girls. It derives from the ancient Greek word 'zēnóbios' which means 'the force of Zeus'. Septimia Zenobia was the full name of a prominent Queen of the Palmyrene Empire, known as Zenobia. She was described as a stern woman who wielded manly authority. Her teeth were sparkling white, and she had dark eyes and a dark face. She is believed to have acquired the title of Queen after her husband, Odaenathus, died a few years later. Her husband had founded the Palmyrene royal dynasty. Her efforts to include ethnic and cultural diversity in her kingdom were applauded. However, Zenobia's army was defeated at the Battle of Immae by the Roman emperor Aurelian, who was attempting to reclaim the provinces that Zenobia had controlled. According to one account, she was allegedly shackled in chains after the defeat and died whilst being charged.
